How to Check Used Car Accident History

car accident history

When buying a used car, you don't want an example with an unknown past. Getting a history check is essential in the car buying process to ensure that you don't end up with a nasty surprise later in your ownership cycle.

A history check will reveal any accidents, odometer tampering or fraud that the car may or may not be involved in and is often worth the investment.

Different Places, Different Procedures

The two places that you'll want a history check from are the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America. In the US, there are a myriad of options to choose from, some of which specialise in certain manufacturers.

Our USA VIN Checker can tell you where the car was manufactured, where it was originally sold and what options it had from the factory. This will give you a good idea of the car's previous life, whether it has been in an accident, used as a rental or used as a taxi.

As for UAE VIN Checks, you can get a vehicle accident report from the Abu Dhabi Police website, the RTA, MOI and Emirates Vehicle Gate (EVG). These websites all show any previous police reports of any accidents the car was involved in after you provide your VIN. However, these aren't reliable yet. Keep reading.

Reliability

These websites are pretty reliable, but there are some cases where some incidents may not be reported. Since our comprehensive inspection report includes a background check of the car, we have plenty of experience working with these websites. Believe it or not, 2 out of 3 times these sources will not show any damage history on the car. That's why we always recommend getting a pre-purchase inspection done.

Finding Your VIN/Chassis Number

It's always worth a check. For this, you will need the car's VIN number. To find your car's VIN, look for it on the bottom of the right side of the windshield or on the driver's side door jam. Additionally, it can be found on your registration or Mulkiya as well.

Where to Check Accident History in Dubai

Abu Dhabi Police

To access your report, go to the "Vehicles Accidents' Inquiry" option under Public Services. Upon loading the page, simply enter the VIN/Chassis Number of your car into the website and solve the Captcha.

EVG

Firstly, login to your account or create a new one. Then, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the dashboard.

  2. Select Accidents Inquiry.

  3. Enter your VIN/Chassis Number.

Optionally, you can also do a quick search if you do not have an account.

MOI

This is a fairly simple process, simply enter your VIN into the text box and solve the captcha.
